Temporary Traffic Control in Highway Work Zones - Design and Supervision is a new two-day program that prepares work zone supervisors to interpret, adapt, and implement Traffic Control Plans. It focuses on specific job responsibilities and covers information in parts I, V, and VI of the Federal Highway Administration's Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). You can trust the content. Temporary Traffic Control is based on the most current federal regulations, and reviewed by the leading industry experts. It's based on real-world situations. Experienced instructors lead students through problem-solving exercises, using the MUTCD and state guidelines. It's flexible. You can include state and local regulations as well as federal guidelines. It's easy to get started. There are no expensive, time-consuming prerequisite courses required. Temporary Traffic Control is for workers responsible for: Establishing and maintaining traffic control devices in or near vehicle right-of-way Keeping workers safe while in or near vehicle right-of-way Installing signs and warning devices Controlling traffic flow in construction, maintenance, or utility work zones Anyone with at least one year of documented experience in work zone traffic control can attend. About This Course:

Successful completion of this course results in participants becoming OSHA-authorized trainers in OSHA’s Outreach Training Program. Authorized trainers can conduct both 10-hour and 30-hour general industry classes that provide training to workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces along with information regarding workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a workplace safety complaint. OSHA-authorized trainers are able to issue 10 and 30-hour course completion cards to participants.

During the course, students will work with a partner to develop a presentation and teach an assigned OSHA General Industry Outreach topic, and successfully pass a written exam. Participants will be provided with a variety of training materials and resources.

 

Prerequisites:
  • OSHA #511 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (Please note, the 30-hour General Industry OSHA outreach class is not considered equivalent to OSHA #511. Also, this course must have been completed in the last 7 years. If you completed the course longer than 7 years ago, then you will need to retake it in order to qualify.)
  • Five (5) years of general industry safety experience

A completed and signed Prerequisite Verification Form and a copy of the OSHA #511 certificate (standards course completed no longer than 7 years ago) must be uploaded to your account in REPORTER in order to confirm eligibility for this class. Previously-authorized OSHA Outreach Trainers for the General Industry whose status has expired outside the 90-day grace period window must now submit the same prerequisites as participants who want to become a new trainer.

Experienced safety professionals interested in teaching the OSHA 10 and 30-hour general industry safety and health outreach program to their employees and/or other interested groups.
